Why is the Human Resources department important to a company?
It’s a function that is sometimes misunderstood, and yet it’s, in my opinion, essential to the smooth running of a company. The COVID period helped a little to change people’s views, as interactions with HR increased: managing teleworking, providing the means to work, etc. It was difficult, but it helped break down certain barriers in a way.
In fact, we could say that we support each employee from the moment he or she joins the company until the day he or she leaves. This involves a lot of things: administrative formalities, of course, but also a lot of listening and support. And it’s this bond that’s important on a day-to-day basis.
What qualities are essential for working in HR?
As I’ve just mentioned, interpersonal skills are of paramount importance in human resources – it’s all in the name!
First of all, you have to be able to show empathy and kindness – whether it’s good news or bad. Then, I’d say you need to be versatile, because our missions are so varied, and have a great adaptability, because every day is different.
Is it a job you’re passionate about?
It’s a great job where you can be really useful, both for your colleagues and for the company itself, getting messages across. This “link” aspect, although not always easy, is what I enjoy the most.
“It’s a job that really ‘gets under my skin’, as we say.”
How do you do it at Marrel?
I started out on an apprenticeship, as part of a professional retraining program. I was lucky that Marrel put its trust in me and helped me to grow into the job I’d always dreamed of.
It’s the company that allows me to do this job the way I imagined it, with a team that works alongside me every day. I’m deeply attached to it.
